Yoga classes on Parliament Hill, the Wakefield Steam Train and the Old Mill at Ashton Pub & Eatery made Canada's Top 25 Gems of travel attractions as picked by editors of the Travelocity website.
Travelocity sent close to a million surveys to its members and the editors narrowed the list down to 10,000 nominations from across North America, with separate finalists for both Canada and the United States. The 25 places in Canada, come under Travelocity's "Local Secrets, Big Finds" section and are among some of the lesser-known known attractions across the country that don't include the usual tourist destinations, said Jennifer Gaines, an editor with Travelocity.
"We evaluated the nominations for their uniqueness because we wanted something unique to their area," said Ms. Gaines in an interview Monday.

The Wakefield Steam Train made the list because it evokes a mode of travel not often used anymore, she said.
"This is just a great scenic trip," said Ms. Gaines.
"It's this 100-year-old Swedish steam engine and it just makes for a beautiful ride. They have a sunset dinner on the train where you can eat dinner and look out on the views. It's really gorgeous," said Ms. Gaines, adding entertainment is provided on the train
"It's one of those romantic getaways that a lot of people don't know about. It recalls a different era (of travel). Travellers are so rushed these days trying to get in and out of airports and through security, but this is one of the more relaxed ways of travelling."
We couldn't agree more.
